About the Windfarm

Killhill Windfarm is a proposed renewable energy project in South County Tipperary. The site of the proposed farm is located to the east of Cashel in an area that has a good wind climate and is suitable for a windfarm. When constructed, it will consist of 19 turbines. This website has been created at the pre-planning stage of the project; the project will be going through the full planning process, including pre-planning consultations, and application consideration by South Tipperary County Council. Every year Killhill Windfarm will provide enough electricity up to about 30,800 homes, and save these pollutants from entering the Irish environment.

Wind Energy is a Good Thing

The Irish Government recognises that to avoid problems with energy demand in the future there is a need to develop environmentally responsible generating plants. Renewable energy, in particular wind power, is being promoted across Ireland as potentially the best way to respond to Ireland's increasing demand for power whilst minimizing the environmental impact of producing that power.

Wind energy benefits the environment, helps Ireland meet its Kyoto emission targets, and reduces our dependence on expensive imported fossil fuels. It is far cheaper to produce electricity by wind turbines, especially when the external and social costs are considered. Don't allow the various negative myths about wind energy to mislead you. There is extensive technical literature on the internet that details these benefits - don't take our word for it, check them out for yourself! See our Links page for more resources. Wind Energy is a Good Thing, and that comes from environmental organisations such as Greenpeace International, independent agencies such as Sustainable Energy Ireland, and the European Commission, and not just the industry-linked sources.

Who we are

The Promoters of Killhill Windfarm are 3 companies based in Ireland and the Netherlands: Kemar (Cork-based); Premier Woodland Management (Tipperary-based); and WEOM (Based in Ede, the Netherlands). WEOM is a specialist wind energy consultancy and development company with a long track record in developing and operating windfarms, both in the Netherlands and internationally. Planning Application for the Killhill Windfarm project has been lodged with South Tipperary County Council on the 3rd November 2006. The planning application is accompanied by an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) which has been prepared by Atkins Consulting Engineers. The application may be inspected at the offices of South Tipperary County Council.
